MUSIC FOR A SUMMER NIGHT - 14th July 2007
Poole YPCO take a bow at Broadstone Methodist Church, after their first concert.
The programme rode off with "The Big Country" quickly followed up by the Radio 4 UK theme, which traverses the UK with its tunes from the four corners of the British Isles. Several crowd pleasing favourites later the YPCO players really came into their own with a FAB rendition of the Thunderbirds theme. The audience were also treated to some wonderful singing from soloists Sophie Ackroyd and Charlotte Woods with a beautiful "Flower Duet". Closing the first half with " The Empire Strikes Back", which had some younger member's of the audience looking around for Darth Vader!
Opening the second half we were visited by some Pirates from Penzance and then a magnificent tribute to Walton with Crown Imperial; the theme from Love Story proved all too much, as we were warned it might, with the young players too distressed to carry on, such was the emotion it brought to the fore. A selection from the Wizard of Oz soon had them smiling again and "I know him so well" sung again by Charlotte and Sophie. Flying in were the Dambusters, and to finish a Medley from Abba, fittingly ending with "Thank you for the Music".
We would like to thank everyone who came to support us. The hall was pretty much sold out and we had some wonderful feedback from concert-goers. The orchestra members had a great time playing too, hard work but great reward, seeing so many people enjoying the concert.
IF YOU CAME TO OUR CONCERT TELL US WHAT YOU THOUGHT, WE'VE HAD SOME GREAT FEEDBACK ALREADY BUT WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU.
